HBO Max has released a surprise Halloween episode of the series It: Welcome to Derry, currently available for streaming, Deadline reported.

Variety detailed that the special episode, titled 'A Story of Derry,' runs about 30 minutes and is set hundreds of years before the events of the main show and the introduction of Pennywise.

The original series premiered on HBO Max on October 26, 2025, and serves as a prequel to the 2017 and 2019 It film reboot, based on Stephen King's novel.

HBO renewed It: Welcome to Derry for a second season in August, with co-creator Andy Muschietti describing plans for Season 2 to explore a different aesthetic and themes reflecting the Depression era's social and cultural struggles.

Muschietti noted the new season will focus on characters dealing with poverty, exhaustion, and hardship, emphasizing the era's harsh realities as central to the story.
