The Japan IP Market, a joint initiative by the Cannes Film Market and TIFFCOM, will hold its second edition at the Cannes Film Festival on May 14-15, 2027, according to Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, and Variety.

This event aims to help international producers navigate Japan's complex intellectual property rights landscape and develop adaptations of manga, novels, and other Japanese IP, Variety reported.

The initiative was launched in May 2026 as part of Japan's Country of Honor program at the Cannes Film Market, with the goal of facilitating collaborations between Japanese rights holders and international producers and buyers, Hollywood Reporter noted.

The Japan IP Market provides opportunities such as pitches, targeted one-on-one meetings, and industry discussions to foster adaptations, acquisitions, and international partnerships involving Japanese IP, according to Hollywood Reporter and Variety.

Speakers at the announcement event in Tokyo included Alexandra Zakharchenko, head of industry programs at the Cannes Film Market, who emphasized the importance of continuing the partnership to create more opportunities for rights holders to connect globally, Variety reported.

The event complements TIFFCOM's Tokyo IP Market: Adaptation & Remake, which launched in 2025 and focuses on adaptation rights for manga and novels alongside film remake rights, Hollywood Reporter added.
