New guidance updates menopause symptom management for Orlando women
American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists releases new advice on treating hot flashes, night sweats, and sleep changes.
The American College of Obstetricians & Gynecologists (ACOG) has issued updated guidance on managing menopause symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and sleep disruptions, WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando reported.
This marks the first update in 12 years, emphasizing hormone therapies as a primary treatment option, especially after federal safety warnings were removed, according to WKMG.
Federal officials, including the Food and Drug Administration, are working to ensure an adequate supply of hormone therapies, the report said.
Doctors also highlighted nonhormonal treatments as alternatives in the new guidance released this month, encouraging women to consult their OB-GYNs about symptom management.
Menopause typically occurs around age 50 in the U.S., with many women experiencing vasomotor symptoms and sleep disturbances, as well as depressive symptoms during perimenopause and postmenopause.
Experts hope the updated guidelines empower women in Orlando and nationwide to seek effective treatment options for moderate to severe menopause symptoms.
