A new independent poll in the race to succeed Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi in Congress shows state Sen. Scott Wiener leading Supervisor Connie Chan by six percentage points, with 47% to 41%, Mission Local reported.

When undecided voters were pushed to choose, Wiener’s support increased to 51%, while Chan’s rose to 44%, though the lead is within the margin of error.

Monolingual Chinese-speaking voters, who tend not to respond to polls, could give Chan an advantage, as she has historically outperformed poll numbers at the ballot box among this group.

In the June primary, Chan came in second with 29.7% of the vote, surpassing Saikat Chakrabarti, who had about 20% in pre-primary polls but finished third with 17.9%.

Precincts with more than 30% Chinese American registered voters showed Chan leading with 35% to Wiener’s 31%, according to San Francisco Standard analysis.

The race remains competitive as election day approaches, with voter turnout among monolingual Chinese speakers a key factor to watch.
