Director credits Patrick Stewart for saving 'Green Room' from shutdown
Jeremy Saulnier recalls how Patrick Stewart's involvement rescued the film during a 10th-anniversary screening.
Jeremy Saulnier, director of the film 'Green Room,' spoke at a Los Angeles screening about how Patrick Stewart's involvement saved the movie from being scrapped, Hollywood Reporter and Variety reported.
The film was close to shutting down production as the lead role of Darcy Banker had not been cast and the project was under significant pressure. Saulnier described the situation as being "at the point of no return" and recalled thinking they might have to dismantle the sets and cancel the film.
Suddenly, Stewart, who had no obligation to join the project, expressed interest in the film. Within about a week, Saulnier was in contact with him, and Stewart agreed to take on the role, which led to the movie being greenlit and moving forward.
Saulnier paid tribute to Stewart during the screening, expressing sadness over the actor's recent death at age 86 and acknowledging Stewart's unexpected but crucial support that helped bring 'Green Room' to completion.
