Towson University marching band to perform at Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade
Towson University’s marching band will represent Baltimore area in the nationally televised Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Towson University’s marching band has been selected to perform in this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the Baltimore Banner reported. The band was notified of their selection following their homecoming performance during Towson’s football game against Hampton University.
This will be the band’s first appearance in the parade since 2009. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a nationally televised event that attracts over 34 million viewers on NBC and Peacock, along with more than 3.5 million spectators in New York City.
Towson’s marching band consists of about 225 students who perform at football games, regional events, and national competitions. Participation is open to all students, not just music majors, and members receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,000 for the fall semester.
The band’s director, Taylor Yozwiak, stated that preparations will begin immediately, involving extensive planning, travel, and fundraising to cover transportation, lodging, meals, and equipment costs. Donations are being accepted to support these efforts.
Towson University’s president, Mark Ginsberg, described the selection as an extraordinary achievement recognizing years of hard work and artistic excellence by the students and staff.
