Norfolk State opened its season with a 68-45 victory over Regent, powered by Bahsil Laster's 18 points and seven rebounds, according to Yahoo Sports. J.C. Riley added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Jordan Skyers contributed 11 points for the Spartans. Chase Mullen led Regent with eight points, six rebounds, and three blocks.

In another season opener, No. 25 BYU defeated Ohio State 94-83 in Salt Lake City, overcoming an early deficit with a dominant second-half performance, Yahoo Sports reported. BYU shot 69% from the field and made seven three-pointers in the second half. Robert Wright III led BYU with 33 points, including 14 in the first half and a strong finish after halftime.

Ohio State maintained a halftime lead of 37-34, with Amare Bynum scoring eight points in the first half. However, BYU took control early in the second half with a 7-0 run and extended their lead with a 13-2 run later in the game. Collin Chandler and Tyler Betsey each scored 15 points for BYU, while Bynum led Ohio State with 20 points.

Additional analysis from Yahoo Sports highlighted BYU's efficient offense and spacing, which allowed Wright to score effectively. Tyler Betsey's shooting and rebounding were noted as key factors, while the team's lack of rim protection was mentioned as a potential limitation moving forward.

Both teams are scheduled to play again on Wednesday, with Norfolk State hosting Randolph and Regent traveling to Old Dominion, Yahoo Sports reported. BYU's next games were not specified in the sources.

These early season performances provide a foundation for both Norfolk State and BYU as they continue their schedules.
